Ijen Crater

Ijen Crater or Kawah Ijen,is it location in between bondowoso and Banyuwangi. now popular in Indonesia but also popular in around the world after the great volcano Mount Bromo, Cemoro Lawang-Probolinggo. Ijen Crater produced huge sulfur from the crater dome and surrounded by green acid lake make the view very beautiful from the top.

Ijen crater is one of the most acidic in the world with the caldera wall as high as 300-500 meters wide crater and reached 5,466 hectares. The caldera crater in the middle of the largest in the island of Java with a size of 20 km. The size of the crater itself is around 960 meters x 600 meters. The crater is located at a depth of more than 300 meters below the caldera wall.

The view is so amazing crater when irradiated with the morning sun emits turquoise sheen.the light which also hit from behind Mount Merapi, twin sister of Ijen Crater lest you miss to be captured by the camera. Water crater bluish green quiet but you are not allowed to water down them because the crater volume of approximately about 150 million cubic meters it reached 70 degrees Celsius heat. The degree of acidity is very high crater close to zero so that it can dissolve clothing and even the human body quickly.

Early morning at 00.30 leaving when you are stay in sempol than reach paltuding 01.00am and start for hiking 3km, when the sun had not refract reveals the beauty of this crater lake there is another miracle that presented Ijen. Under the crater glowing blue flame (blue fire) of liquid sulfur is flowing endlessly to be dried by the wind then into cubes and chopped the miners. Chunks of sulfur is then placed on two wooden baskets and carry down the mountain as far as 3 km.
